The Raiders lost five of six final games and were eliminated from playoff contention for the second consecutive season. They had won over the Chiefs, Browns and were at 6-3 before the collapse. Derek Carr ended the season with the most fumbles and had to deal with one of the worst defenses. Another forgettable season, the first in Las Vegas, was it? Fans are growing tired of Jon Gruden. His job is not in imminent danger, but another collapse like 2019 or 2020 could spell doom for his career.
Vegas was on a rollercoaster ride with free agency. They complemented their head-scratching moves such as trading Rodney Hudson to become Pro Bowl center, and splash signings like Yannick Ngakoue, a pass rusher. To complete the one-two punch, Josh Jacobs was also joined by Kenyan Drake. They suffered heavy losses as Maleik Collins and Lamarcus Joyner fled to new homes.
Las Vegas Raiders Week One Odds
The 2021 Las Vegas Raiders season opens at home against Baltimore Ravens. Allegiant Stadium has been officially christened by the Raiders. On Monday Night Football, the Raiders are +5 at home underdogs. Vegas ended 2020 on a 2-5 skid after a record of 6-3 and victories over Kansas City and New Orleans. They also traded away key offensive linemen such as Rodney Hudson, All Pro center, and Trent Brown, Pro Bowl tackle.
Jon Gruden and the Raiders’ front office failed to sign any top receivers this offseason. Instead, they opted to rely upon the small corps they currently have. However, they did sign Kenyan Drake running back to share some carries with Josh Jacobs. Baltimore was fourth in run success rate and fifth in rush EPA permitted last season, giving them an advantage in the ground game. If the Ravens remove the Raiders’ run game, the offense will be directed through Darren Waller who was second in tight-end receiving yards last year.
