The Orlando Magic were originally created as an expansion team in 1989-90, but they have never been crowned NBA champions. Orlando has been crowned Eastern Conference champion twice in 1995 and 2009. They also hold six division titles.
Although there have been some successes in their history, those who have won contending campaigns are few and far between. Fans were able to see stars like Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal and had hope that they would be able to win. The Magic never had enough to win.
After making the playoffs in 2019 and 2020, the Magic were absolutely terrible this season. The Magic have had only one winning season since 2011-12 (42-40 in 2019). They have also become a team gamblers hate or ignore completely. Poor roster management is the latest victim. Clifford has not been able to move the boulder up the cliff in his three-year tenure.
The Magic enter the offseason without any credibility among their declining fan base or gamblers, and with no prospects of significant improvement in 2021-22.
