The 2021 MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday night. It’s so great to see the Midsummer Clasic back after a year. It will be held at Colorado’s Coors Field starting at 7:30 p.m. ET, between American League and National League.
However, there is no rest for the weary and there are plenty of opportunities for sports bettors to place bets on tonight’s matchup between the stars from the American and National Leagues.
Our analysts recommend four top picks for tonight’s event, which includes plays on both sides as well as a few fun props.
These are our top picks for tonight’s MLB All-Star Game.
ASG MVP ODDS
Shohei Ohtani (+300) is the favorite, as it should be. He will lead-off for American League and then pitch the first pitch. The top five include Fernando Tatis Jr. (+350), Vlad Guerrero Jr. (+1500), Aaron Judge (+1600) and Nolan Arenado (+1700). Xander Bogaerts is tied for ninth with +1000. Rafael Devers is tied 12th at +1000. J.D. was the last Red Sox player who won All-Star Game MVP. Drew was back in 2008.
ODDS TO HIT THE HOME RUN
Bogaerts has a +900 chance to hit a homerun. We know that Bogaerts will be facing Max Scherzer in his first inning. Bogaerts’ regular season statistics against Scherzer aren’t exactly encouraging. He went just 2-for-11 in his career, with five strikeouts. Devers is slightly more likely to get deep at +725. Devers was 0-for-3 against Scherzer and then 1-for-3 in 2020 with an RBI double. If Scherzer is still pitching, there is a possibility that Devers, the Sox’s third baseman, could be facing the Nationals ace in at least the first inning. Judge is next with +525, Ohtani having the best chance to leave the yard.
ODDS FOR THE GAMES
Tonight’s odds of the National League winning tonight are -121. The American League is +100. The AL has won seven consecutive games. The total is 11, with the over at +115 and under at +105. In the last ten matches, the total runs by the teams has never exceeded 8 runs. This was the 8-6 win for AL in 2018.
MLB All-Star Game Prop Betting
American League Total Runs – More than 5.5 (+115).
Ohtani is the designated hitter and leads off the American League lineup. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from Toronto bats second. Xander Bogaerts of Boston is in the third spot, while Aaron Judge of New York Yankees bats cleanup. This offense could make a lot of noise in the rarefied atmosphere of Coors Field.
1st 5 innings total under 6.5 runs (-140).
Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer will make his fourth All-Star appearance, and Ohtani will be on the opposite side. In All-Star Games, the pitching usually outperforms the batters, especially in the early innings. While we should still see plenty of offense as the game progresses, it will not be a slugfest the first few frames.
Is there a chance of a run being scored in the first inning? – Yes (-135)
As I mentioned, Scherzer is an experienced player in these types of things while Ohtani makes his first ASG debut. He is also playing in a National League park. As good as Ohtani is, I believe he experiences nerves and gives the first run in this game.
