Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province, consists of one main island and 231 smaller islands. Although it has one of Canada’s lowest gambling rates, the region offers legal gambling options and a decent average yearly income.
Although the province isn’t breaking new ground in gambling, it offers more opportunities than any other U.S. state. The Prince Edward Island Lotteries Commission manages the gaming in the region. The three-person governing body responsible for the organization and conduct the different gambling options on the island has been in place since 1976, when it was established under the Lotteries Commission Act.
In 1976, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation was also established. It was included in the Canada Business Corporations Act. The four Atlantic provinces of PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick co-own this entity, which manages the day-today operations of harness racing and gaming as well as the lottery.
Legal Sports Betting on Prince Edward Island
Pro-Line is a service run by the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. It was created to offer legal sports gambling to residents of Prince Edward Island and other Atlantic provinces. Customers can either demonstrate their handicapping skills on the official website or visit a licensed retailer, such as a convenience or gas station.
A player must be at the least 19 years of age to participate. Pro-Line prohibits customers from placing wagers on one sporting event. Pro-Line requires that their customers place parlay bets for at least two sporting events. These parlay bets pay more than single wagers but the chances of picking multiple winners makes it more difficult.
Atlantic Lottery Corporation
The Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC), also known by Loto Atlantique was founded in 1976 to manage all lottery games within Canada’s four maritime jurisdictions. ALC, which is jointly owned by Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island, is headquartered in Moncton (New Brunswick) and employs more than 600 people throughout Atlantic Canada.
The ALC is a member of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation which runs lottery games in Canada. The ALC acts on behalf of Prince Edward Island and works with the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation in order to offer lottery games such as Lotto 649, Lotto Max, paper-based and online betting games like PRO-LINE, and the ProLineStadium.com betting portal.
