This weekend will see the NASCAR Cup Series make its first visit to Nashville Superspeedway. For both drivers and fantasy owners, Sunday’s Ally 400 will be a lot of unknowns.
While we won’t be able to access track history to help us build lineups, we can still look at tracks with some similarity. Nashville is a 1.33-mile concrete oval with low banking. Tracks like Phoenix, Darlington and Dover could all be good predictors. Even more important, NASCAR will use the 750-horsepower package for this weekend. It is worth looking at past results with this package.
Hendrick Motorsports has been moving so quickly in recent weeks, that it could make sense to simply load up on HMS drivers. But, I believe the gap between HMS (and other large organizations like Joe Gibbs Racing or Team Penske) is smaller at the tracks with 750 horses than at tracks with the 550-horsepower package.
Add to that the fact Nashville will be making its series debut, you can see why I am fading Kyle Larson as well as most of the HMS team this weekend. I won’t be surprised if Larson wins Sunday. But I’m much more certain that he will be the man to beat at next week’s 550h-horsepower oval.
This week, the NASCAR Cup Series will be heading to New Hampshire Speedway for the 2021 Foxwoods Resort Casino301. This is the final Cup Series race for July. There are only four races left in August before the 2021 NASCAR playoffs begin on September 5th. With 836 points, Denny Hamlin is currently leading the NASCAR Cup Series standings. He has not won a race in 2021 and has only 11 top-five finishes.
Kyle Larson is the favourite on DraftKings Sportsbook with +400 odds of winning this week’s race. With four wins this season, he enters the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 race second in points. This is the most among all drivers. He is closely followed by Kyle Busch (+600), Denny Hamlin (800), Martin Truex Jr. (800) and Chase Elliott (+900).
