After a two week break, Formula One returns to its best. F1 will be returning to Silverstone Circuit in the British Grand Prix.

In recent years, Lewis Hamilton has been dominant at the British Grand Prix. He has won seven consecutive victories. The defending Formula 1 champion will be returning to Silverstone for the 76th edition, despite being a +165 second favourite in the British Grand Prix odds. Hamilton is returning to England to race his longest winless streak in five year and faces a huge challenge to keep up with Max Verstappen who currently sits at -135 chalk in British Grand Prix odds. Verstappen has won the checkered flag in four out of five of his previous races.

Silverstone, a former Royal Air Force airfield, was home to the first Formula 1 Grand Prix. It has been a fixture on the calendar ever since. Silverstone is one of the fastest circuits of F1 and has 18 corners. There are a few high-speed corners. It also offers plenty of opportunities for overtaking.
Tips and picks for F1 British Grand Prix
Tip: Lewis Hamilton (+175) is the fastest qualifier
Red Bull Racing is on a five-race winning streak. Their lead in both the Constructors’ Championship and Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship continues to grow. However, their most recent win in Austria’s second race seemed to be a major breakthrough.
Mercedes, the Constructors Championship winners, has announced their intention to upgrade their car before the British Grand Prix to reduce the Red Bull’s pace advantage. This is a departure from their previous stance where they had stated that they would not be developing the 2021 version of the car, in order to concentrate on the 2022 version. Lewis Hamilton has won six of seven British Grand Prix races, but hasn’t won any race in 2021 since May 2nd.
Mercedes’ decision to upgrade their car was a strong statement that they are not finished with their championship pursuits. Hamilton will make an even bigger statement by winning qualifying on Friday.
Tip: Top-6 Finish Daniel Ricciardo (-120).
Fans and believers in Daniel Ricciardo can take comfort in his race-day performances. He has struggled to adjust to the McLaren car his first year. Ricciardo’s racing skills are displayed on Sundays, despite being consistently beaten in qualifying by Lando Norris, his teammate.
Ricciardo’s qualifying difficulties can be reduced as F1 is trying a new format this weekend. Instead of qualifying for Sunday’s race, the British GP will be qualifying Friday for Saturday’s 17-lap sprint race. The results will determine Sunday’s grid. Ricciardo will have two opportunities to climb the grid if he fails to qualify. He will be able to secure a Top-6 finish in the sprint race format thanks to his growing confidence and overtaking ability.
Tip: Pierre Gasly (+100), Top-6 Finish
We should back Ricciardo, one of F1’s most consistent drivers and most prominent competitors in midfield if we want to hedge against Ricciardo’s Top-6 hopes. Gasly is among the top midfielder drivers, despite being the fifth-best car on this grid. Gasly currently sits in ninth place in the Drivers Championship standings despite having two DNFs in nine races. His season was highlighted by a podium finish at Baku.
Gasly is a consistent driver, with qualifying and a sprint race before Sunday’s Grand Prix. His Top-6 push at Silverstone will be helped by the fact that Charles Leclerc (his most prominent competitor) and Carlos Sainz (his Ferrari driver), are both still to show straight-line speed.
Gasly, who finished seventh at Silverstone in 2020 can improve that result during the 2021 British Grand Prix.
