Mexico has been named the Gold Cup finalist 2021, after beating Canada in the 99th minute. To revive the last edition’s final, the defending champions will face the USA in the decisive game. El Tri won despite being beaten by Canada.
El Tri took the lead after Orbelin Pineda’s goal at the penalty spot in 45 minutes, right after the half-time break. Canada fought back and Tajon Buchanan of New England Revolution scored the equalizer in 57 minutes. Mexico was then given a second penalty, but Maxime Crepeau saved Carlos Salcedo’s shot.
Mexico won the match 1-0 in extra time. Hector Herrera’s goal saved Mexico from losing the match. Mexico will be seeking their 12th Gold Cup against the well-known USA rivals, who beat Qatar 1-0 to reach final. Check out highlights and goals of the match.
Mexico is the favorite to win the Gold Cup 2021. They are the reigning champions, and have named a strong team, even though Javier Hernandez isn’t part of it. El Tri will be tough to beat this summer.
The United States is second in favorites. Gregg Berhalter gave some time off to Europe’s stars such as Tyler Adams, Sergino Det, Tyler Adams, Gio Reyna and Tyler Adams. The squad is still very talented and hosts can expect them to be successful.
Costa Rica could benefit if one of the heavyweights falls. Although they will be without goalkeeper Keylor Navas for the match, Bryan Ruiz and Celso Borges are still strong.
Jamaica is the most attractive outsider at +1800 even though they couldn’t sign up England-based players Michail Antonio or Ethan Pinnock in this competition. Qatar may surprise you as they are the Asian champions and have some young players.
Mexico is the nation with the greatest success in Gold Cup history. El Tri, who have won CONCACAF’s regional championship no less than 11 times, are currently the reigning champions. The second edition of the competition saw their first victory in 1965.
The United States didn’t win the Gold Cup until 1991. This was just three years after the World Cup hosted by the United States. They were the joint-most successful team in the 21st Century, winning the trophy five times.
