Churchill Downs Race Track Betting Odds, Tips & Picks

The first race at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day starts at 10:30 EST. The last race will begin at 8:30 PM. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. It is also a great day of championship racing.

The Run for the Roses is a popular race, but there are six graded states races including the $1 Million Turf Classic. Each race is a chance to make some money. While some are obvious, others can be very long-lasting.

Horse racing websites offer a variety of options for you to participate in horse races. Let’s take a look at the card and talk about some plays that are worth your consideration.

The Favorite

Because he has answered nearly all valid questions in a race that is wide open, Colonel Liam is a fair favorite. He’s fresh, running well and just won.

The $1.2 million son Liam’s Map is a winner in five career races. However, he depends on others for a good pace.

Top contenders

Ivar and Digital Age are not running since November’s Breeders Cup Mile, when they finished fourth and eleventh respectively.

Ivar was beaten by a strong field and only missed two lengths. In a Grade 1 race at Keeneland, he beat Raging Bull. He is not sure if he will run the eighth mile he needs today.

Digital Age was a bit slow to get out of the gates in the Breeders Cup, but his two previous races were great, including a Grade 1 win over Churchill Downs. He is now two-for-two at Louisville.

Domestic Spending will be making his debut as a four-year-old. He finished 2020 strong despite this being his first race against older horses.

It was quite impressive to win at Saratoga last year and Del Mar this year. Although it was not an ideal situation, losing jockey Irad Ortiz for Colonel Liam was not the end. Flavien Prat can be a good replacement.

Long-term

March 6 was a grade 1 race. Count Again was pushing hard down the stretch.

He should be in a good place after a big rally at mile and then stretching out and being slightly stronger second to a layoff. He will be rallying hard down the long stretch to Churchill Downs.

Turf is the Best Bet

Each horse can win in this race. It’s a deep and quality group. Although Colonel Liam might have the best chance of winning, there are many other viable candidates. Why not price them?

Count Again could benefit from a longer race. He is in great form and a speed battle at any stage of the event could help him get to the finish line on time.

Churchill Downs Stakes

Whitmore is a warhorse. Whitmore, an eight-year-old mare, has earned more than $4million and has two second-place efforts this year against the fast C Z Rocket. This is a seven-furlong event, but he won the Breeders Cup Sprint at six feet in September.

It is sweet to win the Breeders Cup at 18/1. But. The extra furlong is important. At seven furlongs, he is always one-for-five. Flagstaff enjoys the distance.

Flagstaff is a winner in three of five attempts. He ran seven-eighths a mile, and he powered by the last furlong in a Grade-3 event at Keeneland. He has only one win in seven races. Flagstaff is seven years of age.

Basin won his first race in March at Gulfstream Park as a four year-old by beating older horses. At seven furlongs, he is now two-for-two. Tap It To Win defeated five of his rivals in a Tampa Bay Downs stakes race in March. Shashashakemeup, who has been moved into Peter Miller’s barn as trainer, has won two races and finished second in two other races. She seems ready to take on more experienced horses.
