The British Open, also known as The Open Championship, is the last of four major men’s tournaments that take place in the UK in July every year. It is usually held in England or Scotland.
After the US Masters Tournament and PGA Championship earlier in the year, it is the first major golf tournament to be held outside of America. It was followed chronologically by the PGA Championship, which was previously held in August.
Open Championship is the oldest professional tournament of golf. It has a lot of history and tradition, including being played on links-style courses. British Open venues are typically located on the coast and feature lots of flat ground and windy weather that can affect the course conditions rather than being tampered with.
The British Open of Golf is available to bet on as soon as majors start. Players who perform well in the US lead ups are often near the top of The Open Championship odds.
Qualifying tournaments for the British Open field are held across the globe in the run-up to the championship, which sees the winner’s name engraved at the base of the famous Claret Jug.
Favorite to be Champion Golfer of Year
Jon Rahm is the betting favourite to win the second consecutive U.S. Open at +900, just a few days after his first Major victory in his career. Rahm has overtaken Dustin Johnson as No.1 in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is currently the only Open golfer at 10/1 or higher.
Rory McIlroy is second on the board, at +1.100. McIlroy’s 2021 has been quite mundane, with only three Top-10 results in 12 events. McIlroy also missed the cut in Augusta, but he did score a T7 at Torrey Pines’ U.S. Open.
Dustin Johnson, third on the odds board at +1200, has struggled since his win at the 2020 Masters in November. He posted just two Top-10 results in 11 events, including missing the cut at both the 2021 Masters, and the PGA Championship.
Brooks Koepka finished T2 at PGA Championship and T4 U.S Open. He seems to have recovered from the knee surgery that had hampered him earlier this year. Jordan Spieth (+1 800) rounds out the Top 5.

British open betting historiy
Long shot bettors have enjoyed great returns from betting on the British Open. Shane Lowry returned a price of 65/1 in 2019.
International players have won nine out of the 13 Open Championships, including three of the last four.
How to place a bet on golf
You can bet on golf by simply picking the winner. This is sometimes referred to as an “outright”. However, there are many other ways to bet. There are many other markets that you can wager on, such as props or head-to-head betting. This is where two golfers are paired up by sportsbooks and you choose which one will score the lowest over the weekend.
