What is the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf for?
The Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Torf is a one-mile turf stakes race for thoroughbred females aged two years and older. It is part of the Breeders Cup thoroughbred championships which are the de facto annual championship for North American thoroughbred racing.
The race was first run in 2008 on the first day Breeders’ Cup racing at Santa Anita Park. Since its inception, the race has only had 12 starters.
It was not eligible to be classified as a graded stakes racing because of technical requirements. In 2010, the American Graded Stakes Committee designated it as a Grade II race.
The one-mile Juvenile Turf was first run in 2007. It is now a Grade 1 Breeders Cup race. This makes it a highly popular two-year-old event. Trainers from both sides see its value in training their horses for bigger 1 1/4- 1 1/2-mile sophomore turf campaigns.
European runners will be in the forefront of this race as is to be expected. Strong teams from Irish trainers are especially likely.
